Bellingham Parks & YMCA Offer Swim Lessons at Silver Lake
[BELLINGHAM, MA] – The Bellingham Parks Department and the Franklin Branch of the Hockomock Area YMCA are collaborating again this summer to offer an instructional swim program at Silver Lake in Bellingham.
The Bernon Family YMCA in Franklin will offer two sessions: Session 1 runs June 27-July 29, and Session 2 runs August 1 through August 26. These 30-minute classes are for children ages 3-12 of all swimming abilities and meet twice per week on either a Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday schedule at the following times: 9:00 am, 9:45 am, 10:30 am, 4:00 pm, 4:45 pm and 5:30 pm. If any classes are cancelled by the Y due to inclement weather, make-ups will be held on Fridays.
A certified lifeguard will be on duty at all times and ratios will remain 1:6 for proper instruction. Parents must accompany children under 10 years old and are recommended to attend lessons for children over 10.
“Swimming is a fun and enjoyable activity for children and adults alike, and it has many health benefits,” said Emily Esterbrook, Sr. Aquatics Director of the Hockomock Area YMCA. “The Y is committed to providing as many opportunities as possible for everyone to learn basic swimming skills and water safety practices. We are excited to be partnering with the Town of Bellingham again this year so that more children and families have the chance to learn how to swim and enjoy the lake this summer.”
Registration will be held at the Bellingham Municipal Center at 10 Mechanic Street on Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 9:00am to Noon. Residents may also download the registration form from the Hockomock Area YMCA website at WWW.HOCKYMCA.ORG or the Town of Bellingham website at WWW.BELLINGHAMMA.ORG and return the form to either the Bellingham Municipal Center on June 11 or anytime to the Franklin YMCA Member Services desk at 45 Forge Hill Road, Franklin.
