Town of Bellingham charges $25.00 for a Marriage License.

A marriage license obtained in Bellingham may be used throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  License is valid only in Massachusetts.

License is good for 60 days from the day the Intention to Marry was filed.

If this is not the first marriage, divorce must be final before applying for a Marriage Intention.

Persons must be 18 years of age to obtain a marriage license.  Refer to MGL Chapter 107 for waivers of age requirement.

Both parties must be present when applying for a Marriage License.

(exception would be a serviceman stationed outside the state)

A three day waiting period is required prior to receiving your marriage license.  The three day waiting period does include Saturday, Sunday and holidays,  but not the day the intention was taken.

Persons must affirm under the penalties of perjury that all statements given are true to the best of their knowledge and belief and there are no legal impediments to the marriage.  (see legal impediments to marriage: Chapter 207, Section 37).

No marriage shall be contracted in the commonwealth by a party residing and intending to continue to reside in another jurisdiction if such marriage would be void if contracted in such other jurisdiction, and every marriage contracted in this commonwealth in violation hereof shall be null and void. (Chapter 207, Section 11)
