VOTER REGISTRATION INFORMATION

 

 

Town Clerk, Kathleen M. Harvey announces that prospective new voters may register to vote during regular office hours in the Town Clerk’s office, Room 2 in the Town Hall.

 

Office hours are:

           

            Monday through Thursday                      8:30 AM until 4:30 PM

            Friday’s                                               8:30 AM to 1:00 PM

            Monday evenings                                 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

 

Deadlines for voter registration is at least 20 days before:

 

            State Primaries                                 

            State Elections                                              

            Town Elections

            Regularly Scheduled Town Meetings

 

The deadline for a Special Town Meeting is at least 10 days before the meeting.

 

Mail-in voter registration forms are also available for residents who wish to register to voter through the mail.  Simply call the town clerk’s office at 966-5827 or e-mail your request and a form will be mailed to your home.  Applications are also available at the Department of Motor Vehicles, Bellingham Library and the Bellingham Post Office.

 

To be eligible to vote in Bellingham, you must be:

 

·        A resident of the Town of Bellingham

 

·        A citizen of the United States

 

·        Be at least 18 years of age on or before the next election.

 

Students at the Bellingham High School have a yearly voter registration day prior to the Town Election in the springtime.  The Town Clerk is available that day to answer any voter registration related questions and register prospective new voters.  Once registered, a student may receive absentee ballots while away at college.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ABSENTEE BALLOT INFORMATION

 

 

To receive an absentee ballot you must be:

 

·        A registered voter in the Town of Bellingham

 

·        A registered voter absent from the town on an election day or absent from the Town of Bellingham during the hours the polls are open

 

·        An active member of the armed forces or the merchant marines, their spouses or dependents

 

·        Physically disabled and unable to go to the polling place

 

·        Unable to vote due to religious beliefs.

 

To obtain an absentee ballot through the mail, you may:

 

·        Call or e-mail the Town Clerk’s Office and an application will be mailed

·        Send a written letter requesting a ballot be mailed to you and where to mail the ballot

·        Fill out a special application for a relative in their behalf

 

·        Come into the office of the Town Clerk, Room 2 in the Town Hall during regular office hours and vote by absentee ballot in person.

 

State laws mandate the deadline for voting by absentee ballot is 12 noon the day before an election.
