If you need additional information, please call the Bellingham Council on Aging at 508-657-2709.

The GATRA van service is for Bellingham Senior Citizens and Bellingham Residents with a medical disability.

The van service takes Bellingham Senior Citizens & Bellingham Residents with a medical disability to surrounding area (Abutting communities - up to 10 miles) Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 4:00pm & Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Other requests are considered on a case by case basis as needed.

We ask that you make your local MEDICAL appointments between 9:30 am and 1:30 pm for best availability and give us at least 24 hours notice.  There is van service for shopping to/ from Market Basket and/or Walmart on Monday mornings & Thursday mornings - please give us 24 hours notice.

We currently have four vans which can accommodate wheelchairs or riders that use canes or walkers. If you are requesting a ride for the first time you will be screened for eligibility. While no fare is charged, donations are gratefully accepted and used for transportation related needs above and beyond the Town’s budget.

Call the Center with your requests. One of our staff will call you back to confirm your information and ride arrangements.

There is also very limited long-distance medical transportation available (medical appointments only) to destinations such as the Boston area, Worcester, the Framingham area and Providence, funded by our Town and rider donations ($15 to $25 is requested per round trip in an envelope - checks made payable to the Town of Bellingham). Give us at least 3 weeks notice for long distance medical appointments, more if possible. Someone may accompany you if needed (no fee charged).

We are looking for volunteers or Tax Work Off participants to escort frail riders on our van to medical appointments and errands.
