Meet the Librarians

Miss Laura

Laura Brillant-Giangrande, "Miss Laura" is our Youth Services Librarian.

Laura began working at the Bellingham Library in 2023 but has worked in public libraries as a children's librarian for many years.  She works with kids from 0-12 years old and their families.

When asked what her favorite part of her job was, Miss Laura couldn't pick one thing!  Here's what she said.  "My favorite part of my job is helping kids find the books that really speak to them, those books that fill them with the same excitement I get when I read. What makes my job awesome is when families tell me that the library brings joy to their lives, whether it’s our books, our programming, or our passes. Whatever it is our families have found, it brings me such happiness when I hear that the library has provided them access to a special experience that has enriched their lives and helped them make a fabulous memory!"

Some of her favorite authors are: Wendy Mass (Every Soul a Star), Joan Bauer (Tell Me), L. M. Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables series), Jonathan Stroud (Lockwood & Co. series), Carrie Ryan (Forest of Hands and Teeth trilogy - YA), Suzanne Collins (Hunger Games- YA) and her all time favorite book is Dune by Frank Herbert. For picture books she loves complete silliness like Jory John, David Catrow, Tedd Arnold, and Josh Funk. Early Readers favorites are the Otter, Biscuit, Dino Dan, and Ameila Bedelia series along with all of Dr. Seuss’ books. If it’s Intermediate reading, shes a fan of Doreen Cronin’s Chicken Squad, Heidi Hecklebeck or anything by Dan Gutman.

For fun she and her family shares a love of movies as well as the world of Marvel and attending Comic Cons. She enjoy nature walks, listening to music, watching football, spending time with family and friends and of course, reading!

Miss DianeMiss Diane, Diane Nelson started working at the library in August of 2017.

She helps develop and run a successful after school program for middle school-aged children (during non-pandemic times). She also moderates an Adult/Child Book Club that meets once a month to discuss middle school-appropriate books.

Miss Diane works at the front desk when she is not with the children, but her favorite part of the library is getting to know the kids and their parents during the course of a school year and watching the kids grow and learn from year to year.

Her favorite books for children include Trumpet of the Swan and The War that Saved My Life.
