Dog Licensing Requirements

  • All dogs in the Town of Bellingham require a license. Four dogs are permitted per household.
  • More than four dogs will necessitate applying for a Kennel license.
  • Licenses may be obtained from the Town Clerks’ Office during regular business hours.
  • A current Rabies Certificate must be presented before a license can be issued.

To license by mail, a copy of the current rabies certificate must be attached and a check for the correct amount to include a $25 late fee per household as of May 1st, payable to the Town of Bellingham.

Please note registrations will not be processed and checks will be returned if rabies certificates are not attached.
 

Fees: The annual license cost is as follows:

$15.00 - spayed or neutered dog

$20.00 - non-spayed or non-neutered dogs.
 

  • REGISTER EARLY! (Due April 30th)
  • As of May 1st a $25 late fee per household will be charged.
  • Any person housing a dog or dogs in the Town of Bellingham who still fails to license by May 31st, shall pay a “Fine” beginning June 1st. Citation fees shall be charged in accordance with Bellingham New Dog License By-Law: 55-4 Late Fees and 55-5 Collection of Fees, which requires a fee of $50. All payments are cumulative (License Cost + Late Fee + Citation Fine = Total Payment Due).

 


 

Loss of a Pet or Moving Out of Bellingham

 

In the event your beloved pet passes away or you move out of Town, please notify the Town Clerks office so that we may remove your information from our system as not to incur fees.

NEW DOG LICENSE BYLAW: LATE FEES.

§  55-4 Late Fees.

In accordance with MGL Chapter 140, any owner or keeper who fails to license a dog before May 1 of the current year, said owner or keeper will pay a late fee of $25 per household/kennel.  Further, if said owner or keeper does not license a dog by June 1 of the current year, that owner will be issued a citation by the Animal Control Officer in the amount of $50, plus late fee as stated above.  If, after 21 business days, the owner or keeper has not yet paid the license fee, late fee and cited fine, the matter will be forwarded to the Magistrate of District Court for adjudication.

 

§  55-5 Collection of Fees.

All fees collected by the Town Clerk shall be accounted for and paid over to the Treasurer-Collector to be incorporated into the General Fund.
