1980 Census
The information included within this survey is based upon the 1980 United States Census, Bellingham town records and Massachusetts Division of Employment Security information. Because of the changing nature of the survey area, some or all may have changed since compilation, particularly in the area of housing costs.
A phenomenon that was occurring during this period is a reversal of the traditional roles of the Blackstone Valley in Rhode Island to Bellingham and Massachusetts. Prior to 1980 the employment flow was positive going north to south into Rhode Island. With the past recession and the failure of Rhode Island to effect a recovery, this has changed to a very considerable degree. The largest flow of traffic through Bellingham for commuters is now from Rhode Island to the upper 495 and Framingham areas.
Most of the statistics given are from the census and are for the U.S. Census year of 1980, however, there are variations and where made, the source is indicated at the bottom of that page.
