Citizen Operational Information

Good to Know

WELCOME TO CITIZEN OPERATIONS INFORMATION

This page and links will try to describe information related to DPW or State operations. It's to provide general information to understand what happens on projects. This will impart our rights and yours when it comes to roadway construction(or reconstruction), water main work, sewer work, or a state project and others. This will not be an end all, be all as each project will have varying specifications and some items will be worked out with property owners if needed.

These pages will be continually updated, so if you can check back, you'll see the latest information.

Right of Way(ROW):
Bellingham's streets and roads are of varying widths. Most are 40 to 60 feet ROW width and this area is for the roadway, electric lines, sewer/water lines and stormwater infrastructure. The roadway pavement is usually half this width mostly in the center of the ROW. So, when projects are developed within the ROW, depending on the type of project a land survey of the ROW will occur and plans drawn up. From here they are submitted to Town boards for review, discussion and comment and would then be shown at public hearings. Many times concessions are made for moving or removing and relocating any fencing, rock walls or bushes within the ROW. What this means is that you should not build or put anything within the ROW that would obstruct the ROW for future infrastructure work.
